In about three minutes at a slow pace, you will reach the Vječna vatra or Eternal Flame-a memorial to the victims of WWII that has been burning continuously since 1946. This is officially 'the' meeting point in Sarajevo and also where Ferhadija pedestrian street begins. Walking down Ferhadija from the hotel, from west to east, one passes by luxury shops, the Catholic Cathedral ,and Orthodox Cathedral.
In about 10-12 minutes, you will reach the now famous "Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures" marker inlaid in the street. In a single step, the architecture abruptly changes from 19th-century Central European to 15th-century Ottoman. Suddenly, you are in Baščaršija, the Old Town, with its narrow cobblestone alleys, coppersmiths (Kazandžiluk), and smell of grilled meat. Here you can visit Sebilj Fountain (the wooden kiosk), Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque and the old Bezistan (covered bazaar).
Walking in the opposite direction from the hotel (West), you will reach Aria Mall (ex BBI Center) in about 5 minutes, a modern shopping mall with a supermarket and international brands. Just across the river (cross at Skenderija bridge, about 10 minutes walk) is the Ashkenazi Synagogue, one of the biggest synagogues in the Balkans. Basically, from where this hotel is located, up to here, down to Baščaršija- all over different historical timelines of the city’s development- never a necessity for a taxi.
